Quick answer

No. Don Pie is not Halal-certified. Chicken Pie Kitchen & Don Signature Crab, where the Don pies are baked today under the DonChef name, says there is no pork and no lard in its kitchen, but it does not claim any product is halal. It gives two reasons it cannot be certified: its flagship restaurant serves alcohol and admits pet dogs.

This is one of the most searched questions about Don Pie, and it deserves a precise answer rather than a hopeful one.

The answer, in one line

No pork, no lard, not Halal-certified.

DonChef’s Don pies are baked at Chicken Pie Kitchen & Don Signature Crab. The business states that there is no pork and no lard in its kitchen. It is not certified by MUIS (the Islamic Religious Council of Singapore), and it says plainly that it does not claim that any of its products are halal.

Why is it not halal-certified?

The brand gives two reasons, both to do with the flagship restaurant at 39 Tyrwhitt Road:

  1. It serves alcohol. The Tyrwhitt Road restaurant menu includes beer, wine, sake, whisky and other drinks.
  2. It admits pet dogs. The restaurant offers indoor pet-friendly dining, which it links to the Singapore Food Agency’s updated rules on dining with pets from January 2025.

The brand’s statement on this was last reviewed on 25 August 2026.

“No pork, no lard” is not the same as halal. Halal certification covers sourcing, preparation, storage and premises. If you need halal food, choose a MUIS-certified seller.

Do any Don Pie dishes contain alcohol?

Some do. The brand’s FAQ says its pastries contain no alcohol by default, with exceptions stated on the menu. Two to know about:

  • The Beef Pie is slow-cooked with a touch of wine, per the menu.
  • The Crab Bee Hoon Soup is cooked with Chinese cooking wine and herbs including dang gui, and there is an optional flaming Maotai add-on.

What allergens are in Don pies?

The brand’s FAQ says its products contain nuts, eggs, dairy and gluten. The Original Chicken Pie contains half a hard-boiled egg, and the Apple Pie is described as containing nuts. If you have a serious allergy, speak to the outlet before you buy.

Is the kiosk food different from the restaurant food?

The pies at the four kiosks (AMK Hub, Wisma Atria, White Sands and Tiong Bahru Plaza) come from the same kitchen as the restaurant. None of the outlets is Halal-certified.

Why do some older pages say Don’s pies were halal?

Over the years, various pages, including some older posts from the Toa Payoh era, have mentioned halal-certified ingredients. Ingredient sourcing is not the same as certification, and some of those pages are simply old. The current position, from the brand itself, is the one at the top of this page.

What if I need halal pies?

Look for sellers that hold MUIS Halal certification, and check the certificate on the MUIS directory before ordering, since certificates are renewed periodically. We do not keep a halal directory on this site, because this guide is about Don Pie only. Pie Singapore’s guide to halal pies in Singapore lists which sellers state certification and which only say no pork or lard.
