If the kiosks are where you grab a Don pie, 39 Tyrwhitt Road is where they come from. This is the restaurant Don Pie founder Chef Don Lim co-founded with his nephew in 2021, the kitchen where the pies are baked today under the DonChef name, and the only Don Pie outlet where you can sit down and order the whole menu.

The pies come out of deck ovens here in small batches. If you are curious about that side of things, the kitchen describes how the deck-oven batches are baked and rested on its own site.

Where exactly is it?

39 Tyrwhitt Road, Singapore 207538, in the Jalan Besar area, opposite Jalan Besar Stadium. Look for the stadium and you have found the restaurant.

How do I get there by MRT?

Three stations are each about 10 minutes on foot:

  • Farrer Park (NE8), North East Line. The easiest from the north: from Toa Payoh, ride the North South Line to Dhoby Ghaut and change. See the Toa Payoh route guide.
  • Lavender (EW11), East West Line. The easiest from the east and the west.
  • Jalan Besar (DT22), Downtown Line.

How do I get there by bus or car?

The nearest bus stop is Aft Allenby Rd (07319), served by services 23, 64, 65, 67, 130, 139, 147, 147A, 857 and 857B. If you drive, there are 15 parking lots in front and more than 100 lots at Jalan Besar Stadium opposite.

What can I order here that I cannot get at a kiosk?

The full menu. The kiosks sell pies (and, at AMK Hub, crab), but Tyrwhitt Road has:

  • Every pie, including the Chicken Pot Pie Combo ($18.80), baked to order with a salad, which takes about 15 minutes.
  • The crab menu: Crab Bee Hoon Soup and four other crab dishes, from $39.80 for a regular crab.
  • Seafood: lala and prawn bee hoon, prawn and scallop laksa, herbal and drunken prawns.
  • Starters, from chilled tofu with century egg to golden Hiroshima oysters.
  • Cakes and desserts, plus a drinks list with coffee, kombucha, beer, wine and whisky.

Prices from the February 2026 menu; dine-in carries service charge and GST. See the menu and prices guide and the crab bee hoon story.

Should I book a table?

At weekends, yes. Reservations are taken online, with a small deposit for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and public holiday bookings, per the brand’s menu page. There is also a private room, which allows pets. One reviewer in 2022 found the restaurant small, walked in without a booking and waited about 30 minutes, and concluded that takeaway suited them better. Take that as a reason to book, not a reason to skip it.

The kiosks are listed with their hours in our Don Pie outlets guide.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes. The restaurant offers indoor pet-friendly dining, which it ties to the Singapore Food Agency’s January 2025 update on dining with pets. It is one of the reasons the brand gives for not being Halal-certified, along with serving alcohol.

Our tips for a first visit

Opinion.

Order a personal Original Chicken Pie each as a starter, then share a crab bee hoon soup sized for the table. Pie first, crab second is the whole story of the business on two plates. If you are not up for crab, the lala and prawn white bee hoon is the dish reviewers mention most after the pie.

Is it halal?

No pork, no lard; not Halal-certified. See is Don Pie halal.
