Quick answer

Don's Pie & Cake was the stall of Don Pie founder Chef Don Lim at 1008A Toa Payoh North, Toa Payoh Food Centre II, from late 2019 to 2021. It was where his original chicken pies returned to sale after he sold the Don Pie brand, sold alongside his crab bee hoon. A 2020 visit recorded a personal pie at $5. The stall has closed.

If Blk 206 was the crab chapter, 1008A Toa Payoh North was the pie chapter of Don Pie in Toa Payoh. This is where Chef Don Lim’s chicken pies went back on sale after several years away, under a name built for the moment: Don’s Pie & Cake.

Where was Don’s Pie & Cake?

The stall was at 1008A Toa Payoh North, Toa Payoh Food Centre II, Singapore 318998. This is a food centre in the industrial part of Toa Payoh North, commonly listed as a short walk from Braddell MRT (NS18). The brand’s own timeline describes it as an industrial canteen. Search listings from the period name other stalls there too, so this was a shared food centre, not a standalone shop.

When did it open, and when did it close?

Owner-style posts quoted on FoodAdvisor say the pies were sold “only” at 1008A from late November 2019. A separate, unattributed web page suggests the Don’s Pie & Cake name first appeared in 2018; we could not confirm that, so we go with late 2019.

The stall wound down in 2021, when Chef Don and his nephew opened the Tyrwhitt Road restaurant. A September 2020 blog post already listed “39 Tyrwhitt Road (New Location)” next to the Toa Payoh address.

What did it sell?

Two things, side by side:

  • Pies. The chicken pie that Chef Don dates to 1983, back on sale under his own name. A September 2020 visit recorded a personal chicken pie at $5.
  • Crab. The crab bee hoon soup from the Blk 206 days, which is why the stall traded as “Don’s Pie & Cake, Signature Crab”.

Posts from the period also mention phone orders from 10am with an 8.30pm last order, and free delivery for orders of $20 or more within 1 km. Those were the stall’s own terms then, not now.

Why the name “Don’s Pie & Cake”?

The apostrophe matters. “Don Pie” was the brand Chef Don had sold. “Don’s Pie & Cake” made the point that these were Don’s own pies: his recipe, baked by him. Posts from the time also described a different logo, a deep blue “DON’S”, to separate it visually. We look at all the names in detail on Don Pie, Don pies or Don’s pie.

The $5 pie, then and now

The 2020 price of $5 is the lowest documented price for the pie in the Toa Payoh years. By 2022, at Tyrwhitt Road, it was $6.30, and from 2023 it has been $6.80, the price on the February 2026 menu. See the full Don pie price history for sources.

The recipe did not change address so much as gain a kitchen. The pies are baked at 39 Tyrwhitt Road in small batches and sold there and at four kiosks. From Toa Payoh, the closest is the AMK Hub kiosk, three stops north on the North South Line.

Quick questions

Is Don's Pie & Cake still at 1008A Toa Payoh North?

No. Don's Pie & Cake at Toa Payoh Food Centre II closed after Chef Don moved to 39 Tyrwhitt Road in 2021. His pies are now sold at Tyrwhitt Road and four mall kiosks, and by advance order online.

Is Don's Pie & Cake the same as Don Pie?

Don's Pie & Cake was the name Chef Don Lim, the founder of Don Pie, used for his own pie stall in Toa Payoh North from 2019. It sold his original recipe. Today the same pies are baked by DonChef's team at Chicken Pie Kitchen & Don Signature Crab.
