Strictly speaking, a shepherd’s pie in Britain is made with lamb, and the beef version is a cottage pie. Singapore has never been strict about this, and Don Pie’s version is chicken. The Chicken Shepherd’s Pie is the comfort-food member of the range: no crust on top, just mash.

What is in the Chicken Shepherd’s Pie?

The menu describes it as the Black Pepper Pie filling topped with baked mashed potato. So you get chunky chicken in the peppery filling from the Black Pepper Chicken Pie, under a layer of mash that is baked until the top turns golden. The menu pictures it in a rectangular tray, not a round pie case. The kitchen’s shepherd’s pie site covers the chicken shepherd’s pie in more depth, from the filling to keeping a tray.

How much is it?

$6.80 personal and $33.80 whole, the same as the Original and the Black Pepper, as of October 2026. A personal tray feeds one; a whole tray feeds four to six. Compare it with every other pie on the Don Pie menu.

What does it taste like? Our notes

This section is our opinion.

The mash does two jobs. It softens the black pepper, so this is gentler than the Black Pepper Chicken Pie even though the filling is the same, and it turns the dish from a hand-held snack into something you eat with a spoon at a table. The browned ridges on top are the best part.

It is the pie we would choose for someone who finds pastry too heavy, and the one we would least like to eat on a moving bus.

Is it good for a party?

Yes, with one caveat. A whole tray feeds four to six and sits well on a buffet table next to a whole Original. The caveat is shelf life: the brand’s FAQ says shepherd’s pie should not be kept beyond three days chilled, and like all the pies it is best within four hours of purchase. Plan to eat it on the day. If you are still working out quantities, donpieshop.com has a guide to how many to order for a birthday or party.

Where can I buy it?

Pies are sold at all five outlets, subject to stock; order ahead if you need a whole tray for a set time. See the outlet guide for hours.

Is it halal?

No pork, no lard; not Halal-certified. The brand’s allergen note says its products contain nuts, eggs, dairy and gluten. See is Don Pie halal.
